Practice Cake #1
Alice is 11 months old today! We're one month out from the fabulous pink party, so I made a practice cake today. I made candy flowers, bees and butterflies out of melted chocolate. Then I made the Hummingbird Cake and hot pink cream cheese icing. I thought the Hummingbird cake would be a good choice because it looked healthy--applesauce instead of oil, bananas and pineapple. It just tasted like banana bread, though. I thought the cream cheese icing would be better than butter cream (which is made with shortening). It is tasty and ended up a lovely shade of hot pink, but it wasn't thick enough to make a smooth top or fancy piping.
Oh well, I guess that is why I did a test run. And I shouldn't be too hard on the cake yet, I only tasted the scraps. When we cut it I might change my mind. We'll see what Alice thinks.
